Swansfleet contracts processing potatoes with McCain Foods and Simplot. We strive to provide the best possible potatoes to make quality french fries at these factories and our farm has been the recipient of awards for quality.
Our storage facilities for processing potatoes are near Cypress River, Treherne and Bruxelles, Manitoba.
We start our seed from disease-free nuclear stock 25 miles away from commercial production. Isolation helps keep our seed supply clean from virus and other pests and disease. We apply mineral oil weekly and insecticide when pest thresholds are reached.
We grow Russet Burbank, Ranger, Umatilla and Innovator seed for customers but we also trial new varieties every year.
All of our seed is irrigated, helping us reach our target size profile and quality.
Our ability to size, grade and ship seed efficiently is due to our high capacity modern grading facility. We supply whole seed but a large portion of our sales are custom cut and treated. Several farms take single drop seed to avoid cutting. We also offer delivery within Manitoba with our insulated trailers.
Swansfleet is more than just potatoes. We aim to produce high quality corn, peas, wheat, canola, soybeans, rye and edible beans.
We manage over 11 000 acres in rotation. Most of the land is zero tilled in between row crops. Cover crops are established when potato harvest is early enough. Wheat and rye are used to build soil organic matter after potatoes and establish a cover quickly in the spring to prevent wind and water erosion.
